Story of an Artist
My passion for arts lives on with me.
My name is Ernesto Mendoza , but known as Ernie to my friends and ex-colleagues. I am originally from the Philippines, and I was born in the late 40’s.
In the early 60’s I started studying Architecture and Design in Mapua, The Philippines and it took me five and half years to obtain B.Sc.Architecture.
In the first two years of my studies, subjects included were ARTS where I was taught paintings in the medium of watercolour, acrylic, pen and ink, pastel, and sculpture.
On our third year till we finished the course most parts of our studies were designing houses, buildings, and landscape architecture. In our design we were asked to do presentation drawings including perspective view in colour both exterior and interior. Overall six presentation drawings had been completed for the course.
I came to England in 1975 and firstly worked for British Gas as an Architect for ten years. My task were to design building proposals and do presentation drawings both exterior and interior of the buildings.
After leaving British Gas I worked as Self Employed Architect of which I was involved in designing Minster Court in Tower Hill in London, and the refurbishment of Kings Cross Station, Liverpool Street Train Station, and Ashford Train Station in Ashford-Kent.
As Self Employed Architect I managed to be involved in doing Offshore Platforms and to name few, Marathon Oil Brae B, Chirag Oil Platform, and Shah Deniz Phase 1 and 2.
In between working as an architect and whenever I had chance, I liked to work on my passion for arts and am continually painting, resulting in finishing seven paintings of different sizes all done in watercolour-acrylic.
Now that I am semi-retired as an architect, I can now devote many more time to my precious passion for arts.
I am currently residing in Hove, East Sussex
